How to Check Pokémon Card Prices
Whether you're trading at a local league, buying singles, or clearing out a childhood collection, checking a Pokémon card's current price is step one. Here are the two ways to do it — and when each makes sense.
Method 1: Manual price lookup
Every English Pokémon card can be pinned down by three details printed on the card itself:
- Set symbol — the small icon near the card number identifying the expansion
- Card number — e.g. 25/102, printed at the bottom
- Variant — holo, reverse holo, 1st Edition stamp, promo star
With those, you can search recent sold listings on major marketplaces and compare. Cross-referencing at least two sources gives a reliable range. The catch: it takes a few minutes per card, and misidentifying the set or variant — easy with lookalike reprints — gives you the wrong price entirely. Our set number lookup guide covers the details.
Method 2: Scan the card with a price checker app

Prices change — check before every trade
Pokémon card prices move with tournament results, reprints, and collector demand. A card priced six months ago may be far off today's market. Make a habit of scanning before you sell or trade anything of value.
